Learn more about CBD

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a phytocannabinoid commonly found in high concentrations certain strains of hemp. It is one of at least 113 cannabinoids discovered in the cannabis plant and is non-intoxicating in its effects.

What is the endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids (cannabinoids produced by the body) and the receptors they bind to, cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2). The endocannabinoid system has been shown to be involved in the regulation of a number of physiological and cognitive processes throughout the human body.
What are Cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are a group of chemical compounds that are most commonly found in–but not exclusive to—cannabis. In addition to being produced endogenously by the human endocannabinoid system, cannabinoids have also been found in other botanical sources, including hops and varieties of Echinacea. At least 113 cannabinoids have been isolated from cannabis and characterized, with two of the most notable ones being cannabidiol (CBD) tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
How much CBD should I take?

Due to the wide range of use-cases for CBD, appropriate serving sizes can vary widely. Your serving size will be dependent upon your body weight, metabolism, individual body chemistry, and other metabolic factors.

We cannot make specific recommendations regarding serving sizes. We recommend starting with a small amount of CBD, and gradually increasing the serving until the desired effects are achieved.

Is CBD Phychoactive?

The short answer is CBD has non-psychoactive properties.  For a more complex answer, CBD & THC share a similar formula and chemical structure.  With the exception that THC has a cyclic ring and CBD has a hydroxyl ring.  This is why THC has psychoactive properties (gets a patient high) and CBD does not. In fact, CBD is often used to help moderate THC’s effect by alleviating stress and anxiety.

What is the difference between hemp seed oil and hemp oil (CBD)?

While hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant, hemp oil is a product derived from the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the hemp plant. Hemp seeds rarely contain minute detectable quantities of cannabinoids, but typically, hemp seeds contain non-detectable levels of cannabinoids. By contrast, detectable levels of cannabinoids can be found in the stalks and leaves of hemp, with the highest concentrations of cannabinoids being found in the flowers of the hemp plant. CBD hemp oil products have a much greater concentration of CBD than hemp seed oil products, while hemp seed oil products commonly contain no therapeutically viable levels of cannabinoids.

Are there heavy metals and pesticides in CBD products?

All of our finished products are third-party tested for heavy metals and pesticides, in addition to cannabinoid profile. In order to ensure the highest standard of quality and safety in our products, we follow the guidelines established in the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia Cannabis Monograph.

What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate based CBD?

Our full spectrum products are made by a whole plant extraction with food grade alcohol. We carefully control our process to maintain and preserve the full suite of naturally occurring phytocannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes in the hemp plant. This suite of compounds has potential synergistic benefits which are currently being researched.

Products made with Broad Spectrum and Isolated CBD do not retain all these natural compounds and therefore may not have the same effects or benefits.

Our full spectrum products are standardized to specific CBD potencies and due to the natural variation of plant extracts, the levels of peripheral cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids may fluctuate from batch to batch.

We only use sustainably grown hemp to make our products and we ensure that THC concentration remains under the federally mandated 0.3% requirement. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our knowledgeable customer service staff. We hope you enjoy!

Is CBD legal in my state?

The 2018 Farm Bill will greatly increase the availability of CBD products for sale to the general public, by removing hemp-derived CBD from the federal list of controlled substances. When federal laws change, there is often a transition period where state/local laws and regulations must be brought into compliance with federal law. We are currently in such a transition period, where multiple state and local laws may undergo rapid change. We encourage users to always check with your local government, law enforcement or customs office for the most up-to-date information regarding the legality of CBD in your area before making a purchase. Animo Organics cannot offer legal opinions or advice. However, we closely monitor legislative and regulatory changes to ensure that our products and business activities remain in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, wherever we do business.

Can I order from anywhere in the United States?

Animo Organics and other popular CBD brands currently make products available in all 50 states. With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, regulations regarding hemp-derived ingestible cannabinoid products will continue to be updated, so we strongly recommend that you check with your local administration to ensure you are comfortable with the level of legality of consuming hemp CBD products before you buy them.

Will I test positive for THC on a drug screen?

While our products comply with the federally mandated THC limits of less than 0.3%,  this does mean a positive test is not possible. There are many different drug test depending on the labs conducting the test and the THC threshold that would yield a positive result is stricter in some tests than others. There are a certain number of industries that allow ZERO THC in your system.

Animo Organics holds no liability for any positive results on a drug test. We highly recommend not using full spectrum CBD products if this is a concern to you.
